What to do after Bonemass: the Mountains
Cold, high and windy. Stay warm, and watch the sky for drakes.
What to do in the Mountains
Brew Frost Resistance Mead
Mix the base at the Mead Ketill, then let it ferment. Without frost protection the cold wears you down fast.
Find silver with the Wishbone
Equip the Wishbone from Bonemass and follow its ping to veins under the snow. Mine them with an Iron Pickaxe. Silver ore and bars can't go through portals.
Hunt wolves for a warm cape
Wolf Pelts, a little Silver and a Wolf Trophy (a rare drop) make the Wolf Fur Cape, which keeps the cold out. Wolves hunt in packs, so keep your back to something.
Upgrade the Forge and make wolf armour
Silver weapons need Forge level 3: the Forge plus two extensions. The Wolf Hide Chestpiece also keeps out the cold; the trousers don't.
Mine obsidian for better arrows
Obsidian sits in black rocks and caves. Obsidian Arrows and the Draugr Fang bow are your best ranged gear here.
Cook wolf skewers and onion soup
Wolf skewers need a Cauldron with a Spice Rack and a Butcher's Table. Onion Seeds are in chests in abandoned cabins and ruined towers; onions won't grow in the Mountains, so plant them back home.

Wolf
80 health
Hunts in packs after dark and will run you down on open snow. Put your back to a rock so they can't circle you, and parry them one at a time rather than swinging into three.

Fenring
300 health · out at night
Only out at night, and it leaps at you from several metres away. Keep moving and roll through the leap instead of trying to block it.

Drake
100 health
Perches on the peaks and spits ice at you from the air. It has very little health, so a bow settles it quickly; step behind a rock while you line the shot up.

Stone Golem
800 health
Sleeps as a boulder until you walk too close. Weapons chip at it, but a pickaxe hits it twice as hard as anything else — and it can't follow you over broken ground or up a steep bank.

Ulv
50 health · in Frost Caves
Comes at you in twos and threes. Back into a corridor so they have to arrive one at a time.

Cultist
200 health · in Frost Caves
Breathes a cone of fire that goes straight through walls, so hiding behind a pillar won't save you. Break out of the cone or close the distance and burst it down.

Bat

Fragile, fast and never alone. A wide swing clears a cluster better than aiming at one.

How to beat Moder
Summoning: A Vegvisir in a Frost Cave or beside a ruined mountain tower marks her altar, high in the Mountains. Offer 3 Dragon Eggs from drake nests. Each weighs 200 and can't be teleported, so carry them one at a time.
The fight: She's weak to fire and immune to frost. Shoot her while she flies, use your sword when she lands, and drink Frost Resistance Mead first. She drops Dragon Tears, the key to your next crafting station.
