What to do after The Queen: the Ashlands
A burning land across a boiling sea. Everything here fights everything, you included.
What to do in the Ashlands
Build the Artisan Press and a Drakkar
A Majestic Carapace adds the Artisan Press, which makes Ceramic Plates. Only the Drakkar survives the boiling sea.
Protect your camp with a Shield Generator
Falling cinders set wood alight. Build with stone, and put a Shield Generator over your camp; it runs on bones.
Stock up on Fire Resistance Barley Wine
You'll need plenty here. Drink it before fighting anything that burns. It won't save you in lava, so never step in.
Mine flametal around the lava
Use your Black Metal Pickaxe, and smelt the ore in the Blast Furnace. Wooden portals won't take it, but a Stone Portal (Grausten and Molten Cores, at the Stonecutter) will.
Upgrade the Black Forge for flametal gear
Add the Cooler and the Vice to reach level 3. Flametal armour also cuts the damage from lava and boiling water.
Cook Ashlands food
Asksvin tails and Vineberries make Fiery Svinstew and Piquant Pie, the strongest food yet.

Charred Warrior
600 health
Feints with the same wind-up as its real swing, so a parry learned on anything else lands in empty air. Hold a good shield and block instead, then answer between swings.

Charred Marksman

Morgen
1600 health
Rises out of the ground and demolishes whatever you built nearby. Ordinary weapons all land at half strength, so roll through its swing and punish the recovery rather than trading behind a shield.

Fallen Valkyrie

How to beat Fader
Summoning: A Vegvisir in the central tower of a Charred Fortress marks his arena (not every fortress has one). Break the bell altars in fortresses for Bell Fragments: 3 make a Bell at the Black Forge, and you need 3 Bells.
The fight: He's immune to fire, and arrows and spears do half damage. Drink Fire Resistance Barley Wine, keep moving, stay out of the green fire, and let his flames hit the Charred he summons. He drops Kindled Ribs (some guides call them Fader Relics).
